Arita 1616 Japan tableware - Premium Tableware Collection | GRHS

ABOUT ARITA GLASS

Arita is a town famous in Japan for its pottery traditions, which date back to 1616 and even produced a unique style of pottery — Aritayaki. Centuries later, ceramic Japanese plates handmade by local artisans adhering to traditions and using unique clay with crushed stone can be bought from Arita.

Arita Japan is a brand created by Teruhiro Yanagihara based on the combination of traditional Aritayaki manufacturing and modern design practices.

Arita Japan produces a wide variety of crockery, from sake bottles to custom plates and glasses. This tableware is made with exceptional craftsmanship and the thinness of traditional Aritayaki but is suitable for everyday use.

Teruhiro Yanagihara did not stop at introducing new design practices. He invited Scholten and Baijings from the Netherlands to collaborate with Arita Japan. They created their product line under the name Colour Porcelain.

Combining Japanese tradition and Dutch pragmatism, Asian craftsmanship and European culture produces a fascinating dialogue between applied art and practicality and between colour and form.
